The Village Antiques & Tea Room ~ Bed & Breakfast came about through various stages. Victor & Marcel decided to move their well established antique business to the quiet hamlet of Williamsburg in the early winter of 1989. Seeking to combine both residential & commercial quarters, the present building loaned itself to both these scenarios. The main floor had previously been used as living quarters and the second story had housed a Masonic temple and would make for a great showroom. However, it (the building) was vacant and had been so for some time. It was in desperate need of a lot of T.L.C. and major renovations. Finally, our antique shop operating in Ottawa, only 60 km north, under the name of Le Déja Vu, was relocated to this spot in spring '89. It was soon evident that our quiet little hamlet was eagerly in need of place to have a cuppa and light lunch so Victor & Marcel began to make scones & tea biscuits in 1992 for customers perusing the retail stock. Then folks requested soups & sandwiches & then hot meals & then dinners & then a liquor license & so on. Keeping very busy, all the while renovating the building, Victor & Marcel added the Bed & Breakfast facilities in 1996. The business flourished. The combination of antique shop and tea room by day and gourmet dining in the evening combined with a few guest rooms for B&B was quite novel an idea for the time and for the area. We served many a happy customer, all of whom returned time & time again spreading the word to their family and friends but still keeping it a well guarded secret. Then, in March of 2000, Kathy Donovan of Ottawa's CJOH television station got wind of this secret and featured our story on an episode of "Regional Contact" and the rest is history! The original frame building was built circa 1860 and housed a harness maker's shop. We left the old barn doors beneath the vinyl siding as a reminder of earlier years. Upstairs of the main building housed a Masonic temple from the early 1900 until early 1980. The porthole in the door atop the landing is a testimony of this secret society's closed brotherhood and remains there to this day. When adding the B&B, the main house was attached to the former carriage houses and so now we have this eclectic blend of periods and styles that form this oasis of charm & hospitality that one must experience to appreciate.
